Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness.

Daedric Princes (sometimes referred to as Daedra Lords) are the most powerful of the Daedra, and thus most commonly worshipped as gods. Each has a particular sphere, which it is said to govern. Although Daedric Princes can assume any form they please, they have no inherent gender, so they may all sometimes be referred to as Princes.

In all, there are 16 known Princes: Azura, Boethiah, Clavicus Vile, Hermaeus Mora, Hircine, Jyggalag, Malacath, Mehrunes Dagon, Mephala, Meridia, Molag Bal, Namira, Nocturnal, Peryite, Sanguine, Sheogorath and Vaermina.

The Daedric Princes see themselves as a superior form of life to all others and feel generally no need for any alliance or truce with any of the mortal races of the universe; however, there are Daedric Princes who can be summoned. There is a popular notion that the summoned lords will then give the summoner a task to fulfill and that the task, once completed, will be richly rewarded. Mostly these tasks are merely for the entertainment of the Daedra.Sheogorath is one of the easiest Daedric Princes to summon, he can be summoned any time there is a storm.

Sheogorath motives are said to be unknowable, and unpredictable. His realm is known as the Shivering Isles, the Madhouse, or the Asylums. He also enjoys time off on "vacation" in the mind of the dead, homicidally insane Emperor Pelagius the Third, whom Sheogorath considers an old friend.

Sheogorath savored the act of driving mortals insane or making them perform actions which can be seen as trivial or silly. He is completely unpredictable and often comments in nonsensical or other-wise socially unacceptable statements. He often refers to the removal of entrails. Sheogorath's attitude reflects the madness of which he dictates.

Sheogorath spreads the madness of The Shivering Isles in Nirn to savour his demonic pleasures. Sheogorath is depicted as being rebellious as he is one of the "Four Corners of the House of Troubles". He speaks with an exaggerated mix of an Irish and Scottish accent, which is likely to be a stretch from his usual voice for when he is angry. Most amusing of all is his favored weapon for mortals, the staff Wabbajack, which can transform any living creature into another random creature. He has a few others such as the Spear of Bitter Mercy, Everscamp, and the Staff of Sheogorath. A few of his primary skills consist of Alchemy, Enchanting, Smithing, Archery, Sword-play, and Speech.

"Madness is a bitter mercy, perhaps, but a mercy none the less."
